The history of poplin usage spans more than seven centuries, as the first samples of poplin were produced in the papal residence, which in the 14th century was located in the French city of Avignon.

This is also reminded by the name of this fabric, which in translation from Italian and French means "papal".

Originally, poplin was a two-sided (solid-colored or patterned) fabric made primarily from silk fibers.

Description and Composition of the Fabric

Today, poplin is made from natural cotton using the plain weave method of fibers. Poplin has a unique surface texture in the form of fine ribs created by using yarns of different thicknesses.

The point is that for the dense weave of this fabric, thin fibers are used, and for the transverse weft – sparse and coarse ones. As a result, the density of the warp is twice that of the weft. For sewing expensive bedding, poplin is used, which includes natural silk thread and wool fibers.

This fabric can be bleached or dyed using environmentally friendly active dyes, which not only dissolve across its entire surface but also penetrate inside the fibers themselves. Due to the exceptional stability of the dyes, the obtained substance acquires equally high color fastness.

Depending on the type of poplin dyeing, it can be:

1. Bleached.
2. Printed.
3. Smoothly colored.
4. Multicolored.

For seven centuries, the fabric has been used for sewing men's shirts, women's dresses, making curtains, towels, and tablecloths. Nowadays, poplin, which is woven from natural cotton, is often used for sewing bed sets.
